The peso Argentina uses today dates from 1992, when the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic swapped it in for the austral at 10,000 australes per peso. It started out pegged one to one with the US dollar, a peg the currency has long since left behind.
Good to know
Counting every redenomination since 1970, one 1992 peso equals ten trillion of the old pesos moneda nacional, thirteen zeros gone. Inflation still bites: it hit 289 percent annually in April 2024, and the central bank issued a 20,000 peso note that November, now its largest.
