The peso Argentina uses today dates from 1992, when the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic swapped it in for the austral at 10,000 australes per peso. It started out pegged one to one with the US dollar, a peg the currency has long since left behind.

Introduced by Peru's Central Reserve Bank in 1991, the nuevo sol replaced the inti at a million intis per sol after years of hyperinflation. Congress dropped the "nuevo" in 2015, so the currency is now simply the sol, a name that also means "sun" in Spanish.
