Tanzania's shilling arrived on 14 June 1966, issued by the Bank of Tanzania to replace the East African shilling at par. The colonial-era regional currency it displaced lingered in circulation until 1969, three years into the new money's life.

Introduced by Peru's Central Reserve Bank in 1991, the nuevo sol replaced the inti at a million intis per sol after years of hyperinflation. Congress dropped the "nuevo" in 2015, so the currency is now simply the sol, a name that also means "sun" in Spanish.
