Iceland adopted the króna in 1874, replacing the Danish rigsdaler while the island was still under Danish rule. The Central Bank of Iceland issues it today. The modern króna dates to 1981, when inflation forced a revaluation that swapped 100 old krónur for one new one.

Switzerland's first Federal Coinage Act introduced the franc in 1850, replacing a mess of cantonal coins. By one estimate some 8,000 different coins and notes circulated beforehand. The Swiss National Bank has issued the banknotes since 1907, when it took over from the cantons and private banks.
