Chile brought back the peso in 1975, replacing the escudo at 1,000 escudos per peso; an earlier peso had already run from 1817 to 1960. The Banco Central de Chile issues it, and since centavos were eliminated in 1996, everything is priced in whole pesos.

Introduced by Peru's Central Reserve Bank in 1991, the nuevo sol replaced the inti at a million intis per sol after years of hyperinflation. Congress dropped the "nuevo" in 2015, so the currency is now simply the sol, a name that also means "sun" in Spanish.
